D365 AI agents are becoming more closely connected to financial and operational work. For teams using Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management, account reconciliation and procurement are two concrete areas to evaluate. They address different problems and should have different success measures.

🔎 The key distinction: an application upgrade, an enabled agent and an approved business process are three separate things. Start with a specific task and check its prerequisites, permissions and current availability.

Sources checked: September 24, 2026. The Microsoft Learn pages linked below describe these agents as production-ready previews. That label is not the same as general availability.

Account Reconciliation Agent: focus attention on exceptions

The Account Reconciliation Agent evaluates supported reconciliation exceptions and recommends actions. Its setup includes participating modules, a start date, processing limits and optional alerts. Microsoft currently lists voucher amount mismatches and pending accounting transfers among supported exception types. Recommendation summaries have an EN-US language condition. Read the Account Reconciliation Agent documentation.

The wider Account reconciliation workspace compares the ledger with payable, receivable, tax and bank subledgers. It supports grouped exception handling when the agent has processed exceptions. Review the selected rows and proposed action before submitting a bulk operation. Explore the reconciliation workspace and bulk actions.

Pilot idea: choose one legal entity and a manageable exception population. Compare how long reviewers take to investigate and resolve it, and record when they reject a suggestion. A useful pilot should make the reasons for those decisions visible, not just count recommendations.

Procurement Agent: supplier messages and business impact

Microsoft describes two Procurement Agent capabilities: supplier communications and impact analysis. They can be used together or separately. Supplier communications helps process purchase-order emails; impact analysis evaluates downstream consequences of supplier changes. Read the Procurement Agent overview.

The communications capability can draft follow-up emails or send them automatically when configured. It can identify requested changes in vendor emails for purchaser review. Current documentation also lists unsupported scenarios, including splitting a line into multiple deliveries and changing delivery sites. Charges depend on Copilot Studio credit consumption. Check supported scenarios, exclusions and cost.

Impact analysis considers supplier changes received through configured email processing or vendor collaboration. Its consumption depends on configuration and the changes analyzed. Review impact analysis and its cost model.

Connected Power Platform setup matters

The supplier communications deployment wizard runs through Copilot Hub in the Power Platform admin center. Its documentation describes an agent identity that connects to Dataverse, Copilot Studio, Exchange and Supply Chain Management. It requires Supply Chain Management 10.0.44 or later with the available quality updates, alongside additional prerequisites. Check the complete deployment prerequisites.

This is why Power Platform changes belong in an ERP discussion when they affect the workflow. Include the administrator responsible for those services in your pilot planning, rather than treating the agent as a switch owned only by the functional team.

Choose a pilot you can measure

  • Define one problem: for example, the time spent investigating a class of reconciliation exception or chasing a set of supplier confirmations.
  • Choose who reviews suggestions, who may approve changes and who investigates failures.
  • Test representative exceptions as well as successful examples. Include ambiguous emails or unexpected accounting differences.
  • Measure time saved alongside correction rates, unresolved work and consumption cost.

Start with reviewable outputs and a limited scope. Expand only when the team understands the exceptions and can explain the controls. These are suggested evaluation steps, not results from a hands-on implementation or a promise of savings.
